The future of gaming controllers

By

The change is here. Natal is coming, so does Sony Motion Controller. And even when it sounds like science fiction, Emotiv EPOC, a brain cotroller gadget, is going to be released in dec 21st, priced at $299. So, my title is wrong, this is not the future, this is the present time.

I have noticed certain resistance to the change among the gamers I know. I didnt expected that, as gamers usually are the people most willing to embrace new gaming technologies. They have gamepads, joysticks, wheels, whatever. Perhaps the sample Im using is too small to yield a reliable result. But Im sure they will adopt the technology, sooner or later.

Natal and Sony Motion Controller will be here next year. But they will be integral part of next generation consoles (Xbox 7xx, PS4?). Ubisoft has announced 10 titles for Natal, 4 or 5 for SMC. The remake in HD of the old Killer Instinct will use Natal. As you can see, developers are quickly getting ready for the new peripherals, so, dont be afraid to have one of those new devices and not having games to use it. The price? Nothing confirmed yet, but some rumours pointed that Natal would be priced under $100.I havent seen price proposals for SMC. But eventually, they will be available for less than $50.

Emotiv EPOC, and incredible device that will let us control the games with our brain is going to be released December 21st (yeas, in a few days). But nobody believes this is true. We are talking about telepathy here! This s something that have been around since last year, and seems that there are practical applications already. It is a bit expensive, $299, but if it works, the gadget is probably worthy. Again, in a couple of years you will get this for a third of that price. I see a great future here for seriously disabled people, who will be able to easily control PCs and consoles, so I dare to say that if Emotiv controllers become widely adopted, life is going to change for those people.

They are here. They will be adopted. There is nothing you can do about it, it is time for the new generation of game controllers. What will bring the next generation? We will talk about that in 4-5 years.
